Anne Bretschneider [1981] is a painter from Berlin. Her work is primarily done with oils and acrylics on canvas. Her work reflects the variations between our surroundings and the body. From very visible public architecture, the scenery of life and our own private bodies with which we interact every day. The intersections between these places form the conversations between her paintings. Her oil paintings are self-portraits of intimate reckoning. Her process achieves a gaiety in self-portraiture that reveals her true mind’s eye. In the thick swaths of paint, one can sense the depth of her perception. She incorporates a variety of materials into the acrylic paintings. At first glance these can seem to disappear into the paint. However, her work is extremely light conscious and therefore impressions can vary depending on the light in which they are seen. These subjects together speak to the daily dispositions of beholding our surroundings and the human form.
